blah ... blah ... blah... Merritt lacks the grit of, say, Lucinda Williams, but who doesn't? Merritt is a talented songwriter, and while there are some strong ballads, most of the better tunes benefit from the combination of her smooth voice over the guitar playing of one of the best in the business, Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.blah ... blah ... blah... blah ... Maria McKee lends backup harmony to a couple of songs, and another Heartbreaker, keyboardist Benmont Tench, who played prominently on "Bramble Rose," appears on the reflective "Laid a Highway." ...
